If there was one reason why I sold over $100 million worth of subscriptions, this is it:

The examples are endless.

All offer a hidden treasure map in the following copy!

So if you agree that you are selling a treasure map too, then you must understand how to do it.

Here’s my 4-step approach.

  • Inform
  • Inspire
  • Educate
  • Persuade.

Think INFOMERCIAL/Advertorial in a sales letter, direct mail package, or video sales letter. I credit my success to my Two-Treasure Map approach.

  1. The free content was the first treasure map.
  2. The second treasure map was listed in the content.

Cha-ching!

Think of that show “The Great Race.” Where the contestants are racing around the world in search of clues that will get them the prize money.

My promotions worked the same way…but my content was giving away some of the FREE MONEY in terms of stock picks as teasers. Those teasers, of course, would lead them directly to—THE NEXT TREASURE MAP.

Of course, I would not call it the treasure map. It was the free report we were giving away that contained the treasure map!

To be sure, the FREE treasure map was not 100% FREE. It was free with the purchase of a subscription.

But because it came with a 100% money-back guarantee, it was as good as FREE because the reader got to keep the proverbial treasure map even if they canceled!

It told the story of an imminent danger to investors—something that they were already reading in the press.

The only difference was that the story connected the dots to the solution we were selling—subscriptions to this publication.

What made it so powerful was that it was:

  • Written with the voice of authority.
  • Told a story investors were familiar with.
  • Explained the economic situation in simple terms.
  • Revealed an economic time bomb that was about to explode.
  • Provided the only solution that would save their future.

All in a news-style format that added to its credibility. This piece does this to perfection—and without signaling this is a sales piece until nearly the end.

All using the same facts readers were seeing in the financial media with the overlay of investment direction from a source they could trust.

So instead of just reading like a news piece, it was like an infomercial that was going to take the news and turn it into MONEY.

If you are a student of direct response marketing, this is one swipe file sample you will want in your library.

You will see firsthand how I used my TREASURE MAP formula right from the beginning to organize and structure this 16-page promotion piece in a logical manner that made subscribing almost automatic so that they could get their hands on the treasure map.
